| To Choose : Seeing or Hearing? |

"Absence of proof is not proof of absence"
Well my friend Raethan put up an interesting blog yesterday about hearing or seeing.. He chose hearing over sight, even though hes an artist..Perhaps its because his love for music is as strong? I dont know, really.. If it were me.. Id choose sight over hearing.. Nature, people, life is visually so beautiful.. Of course Id miss music, and the ocean, the sound of a lovers voice.. and god knows I love music and everything, but to not see? A world of blackness without sight would not be a world I would like to live in.. Sunset & Sunrise.. Flowers..Water..The Sky..Mountains..Trees.. So much to see, and this is like one of trillions of things that one can appreciate through life.. Then it all boils down to life itself, interaction.. Like your family and life events..Wouldnt be the same without vision.. When loving someone I find myself getting lost in their eyes, reading their mind..Words on a postcard, or on a screen..Too feel their skin and watch the goosebumps raise on it.. Id miss all that..To touch someone and not be able to see the look on their face, a loving smile, etc.. Now Im getting all mushy..lol..Our eyes and sight are just one of the simple pleasures we get at no cost.. So many things in life we take for granted everyday..What about the blind? The deaf? The impaired? Man do we bitch alot about dumb crap or what?
Well theres my answer, I choose sight over hearing.. What about you?

I'd rather be mute than deaf, deaf than blind and blind than paralyzed/numb.

I stick to my guns...with music I can see, I can paint inner pictures of nature, people etc. I can see emotion, I can see joy and pain. With eyes I can see the world...with ears I AM the world

Wow, that's a tough one. "I could no sooner choose a star from the heavens".
To choose sight, I would cry not hearing loved ones talk. I am not sure if I can stay sane not hearing anything. I would get scared to death.
If I chose hearing, I would possibly die of every tiny sound I heard, especially if it's at night... not that I would ever know it was day unless I was told.
I don't know what I'd choose. I used to think that I rather have sight, but now, it's too complicated to even pick.

I would pick sight... sign language is always an option...

I would choose sight because losing my sight would cause more of a disruption in my life. If I were deaf, I could still read, I could still drive a car, I could still pretty much do my job, etc. My only real creative outlets have all been visual and it would hurt to give those up.

I choose hearing over sight. *shrugs* I don't need eyes to see ;-)

This is cheating, but I'd be blind in one eye and deaf in one ear. I don't mind not being able to speak at all though :p

i would choose hearing over sight, I only believe half of what i hear anyway, and less of what i see...lol good post and good question.

Depends on my mood. I mean both losses have equally strong benefits.
Blind - enhanced hearing, smell, touch, taste & the innate 6th sense of presence when someone is around including the odd spectre. Also enhanced coordination if trained in martial arts or some hand to hand fighting style.
Deaf - enhanced visual, smell, enhanced coordination (due to signing), touch & the innate 6th sense.
So is one really a loss as opposed to a gain?
I would hate to loose any of the my senses. So hard to decide.
Great Blog

how would losing your ability to hear enhance your sense of smell? I don't think it works that way.

Yes, I studied Helen Keller in Psych, and yes, I do agree that when one loses a certain sense, their other senses will compensate for it, but it has never been documented that hearing affects taste.

Hmmm, interesting!!! I would choose sight as well. I think I'd be very very sad not to be able to know colors, how my face looks, how people's faces look, not being able to see the world and stuff. But being a musician...I would miss music.
But then...someone special to me always said, actions speak louder than words. So I guess in a little out of content way...I want to be able to see actions rather than hear lies. Ok, that sounded totally demented. But I will choose sight over hearing. =)
